Krov Beton hale ne pripada samo hali, već je deo šireg sistema koji povezuje grad i reku. Nadogradnja hale se vrši kroz otvaranje njenog krova korisnicima. Kroz prostor su distribuirana polja – minimalne jedinice sposobne da prime predviđenu funkciju, koje mogu funkcionisati kao izolovani sistemi ili kao deo veće grupe. Promenom konfiguracije same jedinice i načina na koji se povezuje sa susednim menja se konfiguracija većeg sistema i time odgovara na različite prostorne potrebe. Materijalizacija je ostvarena nitima obešenim o tanke šestougaone okvire. Niti kao deo linijskog sistema postaju sredstvo definisanja prostora. Promena njihove gustine utiče na jačinu granice, ali ne dozvoljava potpuni prekid kontakta sa okruženjem.

Roof of the Concrete hall belongs not only to the hall, but is a part of a wider system that connects the city and the river. The hall’s extension is made by opening its roof space for users. Users are offered with covered spaces - minimum units capable of receiving the predicted function, which can operate as isolated systems, or as part of a larger group. By changing the configuration of the unit itself and the way it connects to the adjacent unit, configuration of a larger system changes thus responding to a different spatial needs. Materialization is accomplished through threads which are hung to the thin hexagonal frames. Threads, as part of the linear system, are becoming an instrument of defining the space. Changing threads density will affect the strength of its boundaries, but will never separate it completely from its surroundings.

The project focuses on activation of the roof of the Beton hala by connecting it with the existing pedestrian routes. This creates space for leisure and recreation which would use roof’s big potential by adding uses and opening new vistas. The topography of the structure is derived form several paths which connect one end of the building to the other. The network of circulations connects key points and creates curves which establish the geometry of the structure.

Projekat nadogradnje Beton hale fokusira se na aktiviranje ravnog krova hale povezivanjem sa postojećim pešačkim komunikacijama. Time bi se stvorio ambijent za odmor i rekreaciju koji bi iskoristio veliki potencijal krova hale dodavanjem sadržaja i otvaranjem novih vizura. Nova topografija na krovu definisana je putanjama staza koja se pružaju od jednog do drugog kraja hale. Staze spajaju određene reperne tačke i formiraju prostorne krive koje definisu geometriju nove strukture.

The roof of the existing Beton Hala building is recognized as a high quality but unused public space on the River Sava, with great potential to become a city beach. The space is defined with an interconnected system of poles whose height is changeable and depends on the needs and action of the users. The poles create a grid covered by fabric. The roof construction created in this way makes the space dynamic and flexible making it possible for the users to create the space suitable to their needs.

Krov postojećeg objekta Beton Hale je prepoznat kao kvalitetan ali neiskorišćen javni prostor na obali reke Save sa brojnim karakteristikama gradske plaže. Prostor je definisan pravilnim rasterom stubova koji formiraju mrežu kvadratnih polja prekrivenih tkaninom. Visina stubova je promenljiva i zavisi od potreba i delovanja čoveka. Na taj način formirana nadstrešnica čini prostor fleksibilnim i dinamičnim ostavljajući mogućnost korisniku da svojim delovanjem kreira prostor po želji.

Ideja je da se u okviru Beton hale zadrze već postojeće namene usluga, poslovanje i kultura, i poveća upotrebni kapacitet objekta. Kao mehanizam za kontrolu ovakve strategije upotrebljena je prostorna spirala koja formira opnu duž citavog objekta, i čije oscilacije (širenje i skupljanje) definišu odnos posotjeceg i dogradjenog volumena. Na mestima gde se namena menja spirala se prekida i deformiše u zavisnosti od potreba. Istovremeno, ostvareno je dobro osvetljenje jedinica, inteziviran je kontakt medju nivoima i sa rekom, i šetalište je prošireno.

The idea is to keep the existing uses leisure, work and culture and expand their capacities. A new envelope, in the form of a spiraling strip is proposed and used as a mechanism to establish control over the expansion strategy. Oscillations in strips' width and height are used to establish relationship between the existing and new built volume. the strip break and transforms according to change in use and user's requirements. Simultaneously, the lighting is natural lighting is improved, more connections between two main levels are formed and public esplanade is widened.

The project seeks to provide spatial improvements and enable further development to the building according to already established behavioral patterns of its users. I wanted to create transformable office space that may be used differently at times. The idea was to hold on to all the existing pillars and use them as referential greed and than add rotating panels to achieve adaptability in the internal organisation by creating rooms, landscape office space and atriums. Atriums are public spaces connected to the public esplanade.

Projekat je nastao iz analize postojećih adaptacija na Beton hali i pokušaja da se ovaj princip poboljša. Namera je da se stvore poslovni prostori koji će imati mogućnost transformacije i korišćenja u drugačije svrhe. Ideja je da se zadrži postojeća konstrukcija sa svim unutrašnjim stubovima i da se oni iskoriste kao početak projekta. Postavljanjem panela koji mogu da se rotiraju oko stubova stvorena je mogućnost pregrađivanja i povezivanja prostora, i formiranja atriuma koji su javnog karaktera i u direktnoj vezi sa setalistem.

Sistemom krugova i njihovim presecima se u osnovi definisu zidovi i tavanica koji sugerisu podelu prostora. Tavanica kasnije dobija formu konusa koji medjusobnim povezivanjem grade slozenije sisteme. Ovakvom formom prostor se deli na jedinice tako da se one mogu grupisati na razlicite nacine.

The function of the expansion of the Concrete hall is a business incubator, the type of organization of business space that is divided into units where there is possibility of occupying one or more units by one user. The system of circles and their cross sections basically defines interconnected and build more complex systems. This form is used to divide space into units so that they can be grouped in different ways.

The general idea of this work is to explore and propose use of L-systems as a new form of diagram research that would be applicable in the experimental architectural programs and practices. The survey is made in a light of L-systems as a form of technical, analytical and visual, architectural and theoretical thinking. Selected generic principle is assumed as a rule, method of functioning based on the initial set of parameters translated into an algorithm and guidelines for the spatial and programmatic architectural design and interaction within it. Parametric variations in geometry gained on the basis of the L-systems logic are shown through a sequence. Pre-defined rules are adopted and modified in order to obtain a final three- dimensional form. Spatial geometry is defined by the string, the distance between components, alterable angle and the number of iterations. Materialization is achieved by complex panel organized in the initial hexagon; more complex modules are established in the physical model of the resulting solution, with a possibility of changing the defined parameter on the model itself. _L-systems; Rhino; grasshopper; scripting

The prototype is casted at the concrete factory near Belgrade wand will be displayed along with plaster models at Mikser Expo. More images.

Concrete is used more than any other construction material in the world. We have spent the first part of the summer term working on the design for the concrete wall, 700 meter long and 3 meter tall. The purpose of the exercise is to develop understanding of the relationship between the fabrication processes and the design intent. Work process was structured around the series of plaster models meant to simulate casting techniques used in the building industry. We have chosen concrete for its plasticity and tactile diversity. Selected projects apply varied casting techniques and use moulds differently to produce texture effects. Some designs depend on the physical properties of the materials used for their moulds. Beton se korisiti više of bilo kog drugog građevinskog elementa. Prvi deo letnjeg semestra smo posvetili dizajnu betosnkog zida, dužine 700 metara i visine 3m. Svrha vežbe je razvoj razumevanja procesa materijalizacije, odnoso veze između postavke prostorne ideje i njene reazlicije. Radni proces je struktuiran kroz proizvdonju serije gipsanih modela kojima je simulirana tehnika izlivanja betona u građevinskoj industriji. Izbarali smo beton zbog njegove plastičnosti i taktilne raznovrsnosti. Izabrani projekti proizilaze iz specifičnih tehnika izlivanja i koriste oplatu da bi postigli različite teksture. Geometrija nekih rešenja zavisi od fizičkih karakteristika materijala upotrebljenog za izradu njihovog kalupa. Plan za letnji semestar se nadovezuje na 'Daleko od kuće' agendu za školku goidnu 0910 . Prostorni okvir semestralnog projekta je postojeći objekat Beton Hale u Beogradu koji je u jednom svom delu već doživeo uspešnu prenamenu i rekonstrukciju, a programski okvir projekta se odnosi na dalje razvijanje potencijala objekta uvođenjem kompatibilnih sadržaja. Predviđena je prostorna ekspanzija u vidu nove etaže, ondosno novog sloja koji pored povećanja upotrebne površine ima za cilj uspsotavljanje adekvatanijeg odnos sa okruženjem, rekom sa jedne i Beogradskom tvrđavom sa druge strane. Predloženi pristup se zasniva na razvijanju generativne logike dizajna i razumevanju fenomenologije materijalnosti i forme kroz sinhronizaciju organizacionih, geometrijskih, strukturalnih i energetskih principa oblikovanja.

Summer term plan will continue developing 'Far from Home' agenda set for the 0910 school year. The focus is on the Concrete Hall in Belgrade, a river front building already being transformed from a warehouse to a hub of versatile uses. We will be looking to introduce new and compatible uses and explore any potential for further expansion. The benefits of introducing an additional layer to the existing volume will be assed against contextual relation with the river on one side and medieval fortress on the other. Suggested take on the topic will be based on the understanding of the material systems and form making though synchronization of organizational, geometric, structural and energy efficient properties.

Izložba 4od7 Arhitektura prikazuje aktuelnu produkciju istoimenog arhitektonskog studija. Kroz seriju maketa, ilustracija i crteža, na izložbi će paralelno biti prikazani arhitektonski projekati koji su u izgradnji, kao i rezultati rada sa studentima na Arhitektonskom Fakultetu u Beogradu.

Djordje Stojanović i Vlada Pavlović formiraju arhitektonski studio 4od7 2007 godine sa pocetkom rada na regeneraciji i prenameni objekta 'Dunavski Cvet' u Beogradu. Tokom 2008 godine, Milutin Cerović se priključuje studiju u izradi modularnog projekat za pedijatrijsku kliniku u Istočnoj Africi čija prostorna konfiguracija ima mogućnost rasta i sposobnost adaptacije prema kontekstualnim uslovljenostima. Iste godine, 4od7 učestvuje na Arhiteksnskom Bijenalu u Londonu sa prokjektom 'Snow City' u kome koriste topografske formacije kao jezik arhitekture i otvara polje delovanja između prirodnog i izgrađenog okruženja. 4od7 uspostavlja interese za ekološke principe održivog razvoja koje aplicira na aktuelne rezidencijalne projekte na Tari i Kopaoniku, produbljujući razumevanje odnosa između prirode i arhitekture. Trenutno, 4od7 radi na projektu za kolektivno stanovanje u Bejrutu i razivija rešenje za kastomizaciju masovne prozivodnje nameštaja.

Supernatural NGO brings Edouard Francois to University of Belgrade where he will be giving a talk at 18h today . The event is a part of the ongoing workshop hosted by 4of7 at KC Grad.

Edouard François and his team of architects and urbanists are working on landscape design and graphic design projects. François became known to the public in 2000 with ‘the building that grows’, built in Montpellier on the banks of the Léz and widely publicised by the ministry of culture’s campaign on quality in architecture, followed by the ‘Flower Tower’ in Paris (a building, bordering a public park, completely veiled in white bamboo) and the ‘Fouquet’s Barrière’ a 80-room hotel, located on the Champs Elysees.

The information gathered to start the project comes from the two main aspects: topographic condition or steepness of the terrain and a visual presence of the sea. Design process, structured in the algorithmic way, begins with the formation of the polygonal mesh onto which subsequent data is transposed. In a series of steps, polygonal mesh lends itself to become an architectural form. Traffic ways are accommodate in a gradual transformation of the terrain. Key isolines are extruded to become front facades of the housing units with unobstructed views of the sea. Cascading nature of the form provides for the segregation between the private and communal spaces.

Informacije od kojih pocinje razmisljanje o projektu se svrstavaju u dva aspekta: topgrafskog stanja odnosno izrazenog pada terena i vizulenog prisustva morskog horizonta. Process projektovanja je struktuiran u obliku agloritma i pocinje formiranjem poligonalne mreze pomocu koje se u daljim koracima manipulise relevantnim informacijama. Kroz seriju deformacija, mreza postaje arhitektonska forma. Pravci kretanja nastaju prilagodjavanjem terena. Kljucne izohipse su pretvorene u fasade stambenih objekata koje su okrenute prema morskom horizontu. Kaskadirajuca forma omogucava segregaciju prostora na privatne i zajednicke segmente.

Rijeka fringes are populated with high-rise residential rise buildings form sixties. This project adopts the ‘tower’ solution for low cost housing and develops the idea further with an aim to contribute to city’s silhouette. The model is geared to provide a high number of housing units overlooking the Kvarner Bay while several configurations have been tested for their visibility form other parts of the city. Number and volume of the residential buildings are interdependent aiming to maintain the fixed number of units while different formal options were examined.

Na obodima grada Rijeke se nalaze stambeni soliteri iz sezdesetih godina. Ovaj projekat razvija ideju o visokim objektima i viseporodicnom stanovanju sa ciljem do doprinese u daljem razvijanju siluete grada. Usvojeni model ima za cilj da obezbedi veliki broj stambenih jedinica sa neometanim pogledima na Kvarnerski zaliv. Razlicite konfiguracije su testirane prema njihovim vidljivostima sa drugih delova grada. Broj i oblik stambenih tornjeva su dovedeni u proporicionalni odnos tako da je isti broj stambenih jedinica zadrzan pri ispitivanju razlicitih formalnih mogucnosti.

The project geometry is developed around the uniform tilling system. Initially, rhombitrihexagonal pattern is applied along terrain’s isolines to form a set of cascading platforms. According to individual preferences, dwellings are configured with the use of two planar components, triangles and quadrants. The project has a potential to change, as system may adapt to varied requirements of its users.

Prva faza projekta se odnosi na prilagođavanje rombitriheksagonalne mreže izohipsama na lokaciji u cilju stvaranja kasakada koje omogućavaju bolje korišćenje prostora i otvaranja vizura ka moru. Nakon uvođenja kolskih i pešačkih komunikacija korišćenjem dva geometrijska oblika, kvadrata i trougla, formiraju se parcele. Stambene jedinice se projektuju u skladu sa individulanim potrebama korisnika. Svaka od njih nastaje kombinovanjem pomenuta dva geometrijska oblika uz poštovanje određenih principa kako bi se istakli opšti kvaliteti projekta kao što su velike privatne zelene površine, pogled ka moru i adaptilnost jedinica. Ovakvim principom projektovanja otvara se mogucnost za dalju kastomizaciju prostora.

This is an attempt to reconcile high density ratio of the development and individual needs for each dwelling unit including the access to the private garden. Existing terrain configuration is transposed into the geometric pattern of the project. Buildings vary in their size according to their internal programs but also according to their relation with adjacent forms. Each unit is granted a sea view and easy access to local amenities, much like to the traditional communities located in this part of the Adriatic Coast.

Projekat tezi da pronadje ravnotezu izmedju potrebe za visokom gusitnom izgradjenosti, odnosno boljom iskoriscenoscu zemljista i individualnih potreba svake stambene jedinice, ukljucujuci i posed privatne zelene povrsine. Postojeca konfiguracija terana je prevedena u geometrijsku logiku projekata. Objekti variraju po svojoj velcini prema internim potrebama ali i prema odnosu sa svojim okruzenjem. Svaka jedinica ima pogled na more i pristup lokalnim prodavnicama i zajednickim prostorima, prema principima koji su tradicionalno primenjivani u stvaranju zajednica duz ovog dela Jadranske obale.

Relationship between the neighbouring buildings is central to the project. The existing topography with the projected allotment is represented as a polygonal mesh. Its tessellation relates to the inclination of the terrain and the most logical communication routes. Housing units are taking shape of the truncated pyramids with their bases belonging to polygonal patches. Their peaks are positioned and adjusted so that buildings do not obstruct each other view of the sea. In result, all buildings have individual characteristics while belonging to the same community.

Odnos izmedju susednih objekata je centralna ideja projekta. Postojeca topografija terena i raspodela gradjevinskih parcela su reinterpetirane kao poligonalna mreza. Oblik poligona je izveden prema nagibu terena i linijama komunikacije, tako da oni cine uskladjenu celinu. Prema uspostavljenom protokolu, svaka od parcela postaje gabarit forme koja se razvija prema principima organizacije stambenog prostora i uspostavljanja odnosa sa okruzenjem. Jedinice imaju oblik zarubljenih piramida ciji su vrhovi pozicionirani tako da one medjusobno ne zaklanjaju poglede ka moru. Kao rezultat nastaju objekti sa individulanim karakteristikama u okviru jedne formalne strategije.

Here is an example of applied parametric modeling we have developed for the project in East Africa. The intent is to create spatial solution which would be able to grow and adapt according to the changing need; or according to varied conditions at different locations. Selected projects are the end result of the exercise started with the Rhino tutorial earlier this semester. From then on we have gradually developed formal strategies around primal architectural reasoning. Parametric modeling tools were exploited for the development of structural, organizational and geometric logic.

Selektovani projekti su proizvod radionice koja je krenula od obuke u Rhinu na pocetku semestra. Od tada smo postepeno razvijali formalne strategije prema osnovnim arhitektonskim rezonima. Parametarsko modelovanje je upotrebljeno kao alat za razvoj strukturalne, organizacione ili geometrijske logike.

Steel structure is rooted in the river bed, and connected with the existing river bank by the pedestrian bridges. Cascading floor layout is planed for easy access to different size boats and varied water-levels. During the summer period, pavilion functions as a public beach, where cascading surface enables direct contact with the water. The Water Pavilion is conceived as an initial intervention within the future transformation of the Port of Belgrade. With minimal changes of the existing surroundings, and contrasting the industrial ambiance, pavilion is conceived as a new land-mark. Different activities will unfold in the pavilion to attract the visitors and simultaneously promote the whole district.

[s] Paviljon na vodi je projekat otvorenog nadkrivenog javnog prostora. Visenamenski prostor cini fleksibilna celicna struktura oslonjena na recno dno, povezana pesackim pasarelama sa postojecim nasipima. Kaskadirajucim povrsinama u parteru, odgovara se na problem direktnog pristupa recnim plovilima razlicite velicine, tokom razlicitih vodostaja. U toku letnjeg perioda, paviljon bi funkcionisao kao urbana plaza, gde kaskade omogucuju neposredan kontakt sa vodenom povsinom. Paviljon je koncipiran kao prva intervencija u predstojecoj transformaciji podrucja Luke Beograd. Minimalnim promenama postojeceg okruzenja, kontrasno se odvajajuci od industriskog ambijenta, paviljon je zamisljen kao novi prostorni reper. Razlicitim aktivnostima koje bi se odvijale na njemu podstakao bi se protok ljudi i samim tim promocija celog podrucja.

It is concieved as an adaptive object with the potential to change according to user requirements and needs (allowing for interaction between the user and the product). As a different configuration, it can be used as ceiling that can create walls, plant holders, sitting chairs, bottle shelf etc. Also it can be easily disassemble and combine in some other product of use. This is method, not a product, of bringing a life to home and making an iconic object for the mutable home use.

It is not uncommon for architects to work far from home, whereby the ability to develop quick understanding of the alien environment will determine the rate of project’s success. This year Studio will look into the context of Rijeka, a coastal town belonging to the neighboring State of Croatia. We will be working at the peripheral site with the pronounced topography and intimate relationship with the surrounding nature. Presence of the large green zone and unspoiled views of the Adriatic Seа are two main assets to be considered in preparation of the design strategies. In addition, this site has unresolved relation to urban infrastructure and the ambition to develop its own identity. In reference only, current development strategy of the city envisages ‘transformation of the area into the mixed use zone with predominantly housing character’ with approximately 250 new residential units on site. Studio remains committed to generative design principles and will continue relentless investigation into the materiality and form. This year we will make one step further in developing the idea of architectural impermanency and versatile spatial organizations. Notions of the ‘sustainable’ and the ‘ecologic’ in design will be expanded form purely environmental considerations into the very organizational logic of space. Eclectic in their nature, our working methods are both analogue and digital; and will equip students with hands on knowledge and techniques of contemporary architectural practice.

Neretko se događa da arhitekti rade na projektima u nepoznatom okruženju, gde njihova sposobnost da razviju brzo razumevanje date sredine ima presudan uticaj na ishod projekta. Ove godine Studio će se baviti kontekstom primorskog grada Rijeke, u susednoj državi Hrvatskoj. Odabrana lokacija je na periferiji grada, ima vrlo izraženu topografiju i nalazi se u neposrednom kontaktu sa priordnim okruženjem. Prisustvo značajne zelene površine i mogućnost neometanog pogleda na morski horizont su dve posebnosti lokacije na kojima je moguće sagraditi strategiju projekta. Takođe, u obzir treba uzeti da lokacija ima kompleksnu poziciju u postojećoj gradskoj infrastrukturi i ambiciju da uspostavi sopstveni identitet. Prema postojećem Generalnom Urbanističkom Planu predviđena je transformacija ove oblasti u višenamensku zonu sa dominantnim rezidencijalnim karakterom. Planirana je izgradnja oko 250 stambenih jedinica na samoj lokaciji. Studio ostaje privržen razvijanju generativne logike dizajna i nastavlja sa neograničenim istraživanjem fenomena materijalnosti i forme. Ove godine, napravićemo korak dalje u razumevanju arhitekture kroz ideju o adaptibilnoj prostornoj organizaciji, i to uvođenjem koncepta ‘održivosti’ ali ne isključivo u ekološkom smislu već u svom dubljem organizacionom značenju. Metod rada u Studiju je eklektički u svoj prirodi, podjednako se oslanja na digitalne i analogne operacije sa idejom da opremi studente sa konkretnim znanjem i tehnikama za rad u savremenoj arhitektonskoj praksi.

e Suspended ceiling is the sole gesture planed to bring new life into the existing warehouse. Architectural intent is delivered from the interactive mechanism able to reconfigure itself according to evolving needs. The ceiling consists of elements with differing purpose, some are structural, while some are mobile and planed to be utilized differently across the interior. Differing in size, mobile components are grouped in clusters forming corresponding spaces with distinct characteristics. One such characteristic is the room height, for instance cafe area will be significantly lower then exhibition hall. Furthermore, mobile components are to be lowered to the ground level and deployed uniquely at different clusters to become furniture pieces (i.e. chair, lamp or display element). This way floor plane becomes the mirror image of the ceiling, populated with furniture pieces now missing form the above. In this protocol each user is entitled to make individual decision on how to use a mobile piece, making way for the sum of the individual decisions to leave key mark on the overall interior form.

s Celokupna revitalizacija čeone hale rešena je spuštenim plafonom. Plafon se sastoji od primarnih komponenti-nosača i sekundarnih-nameštaja. Zajedno, komponente čine sistem koji se menja i prilagođava potrebama i broju korisnika hale. Sekundarne komponente su pokretljive i promenljive, grupisane su u veće i manje klastere. Veličina zavisi od namene prostora ispod. Klasteri su spušteni na različite visine koje su uslovljene stepenom privatnosti prostora iznad kojeg su, npr. klaster iznad kafea je niži u odnosu na klaster iznad izložbenog prostora. Nameštaj se sa plafona spušta uz pomoć sajli, i sam ima mogućnost transformacije, npr. stolica se skuplja u lampu. Pod je negativ plafona- koliko je namestaja na podu toliko fali komponenti na plafonu. Korisnik samim privlačenjem stolice utiče na izgled hale.

s Projekat je zamišljen kao lako dostupan javni prostor. Prostorna forma je dobijena iz linija kretanja koje formiraju glavne i sporedne komunikacije oko kojih se formiraju platoi. Na mestima formiranja platoa linije kretanja se granaju po vertikali i prave prostore za smeštanje određenih funkcija. Projekat sadrži kulturne i komercijalne sadržaje kao i prostor za sport i rekreaciju.U zavisnosti od sezone (leto ili zima), postoje scenariji po kojima se prostor jednog sadržaja može povećavati na račun drugog.

e Adaptive Formations explores the idea of spatial adaptability via rule based design methods. Architectural intent is based on the bottom-up process, defying usual pathway beginning with the masterplan and ending with the individual building design. Proposed design protocol prioritizes decisions at the local level, assesses their compatibility and generates complex spatial forms. In a gradual process, existing warehouses are being converted for multitude of uses revolving around knowledge related industries. Simultaneously, network of public spaces is formed in relation to varied occupancy scenarios with the aim to allow for interaction between permanent occupants and visitors. In the later stages of the project, such development pattern lends it self to further increase of the built density and evolution of high rise buildings on site.

s Projekat istražuje ideju prostorne prilagodljivosti kroz metodu pravilia. Ako razmišljamo o arhitektonskoj strategiji kao sistemu zasnovanom na bottom-up pravilima koncept arhitektonskog delovanja se menja, od master planiranja - niza odluka struktuiranih na osnovu razmere, do procesa u kome set lokalnih odluka međusobno reaguje i generiše urbanu kompleksnost. Nasleđena skladišta se postepeno adaptiraju za različite namene u oblasti poslovanja baziranog na znanju. Formira se mreža javnih prostora u zavisnosti od različitih scenarija korišćenja sa ciljem da se ostvari kontakt izmedju postojećih programa i posetilaca. e Taking into the account facts such as: proximity of the city center, plausible pedestrian routes and the river front location, it is easy to imagine that now vacant industrial warehouses forming Port of Belgrade could make the new centrality in area. This project aims to recycle industrial fabric by converting it according to various individual needs and patterns of collective behavior. The understanding of the communal aspect is based on the study of rules which could be translated into the design protocol. Any change of the input will result in the transformed output. With the change in use or if certain program is activated, such as exhibition, lecture, or concert; the adjustment in environment will follow. The interior is created from thin and movable partitions suspended form the existing concrete structure. If the number of users changes or certain activity intensifies, built environment will adapt accordingly.

s Uzevši u obzir izuzetno povoljan položaj u odnosu na centarlno gradsko jezgro, saobraćajne i pešačke pravce, kao i direktnu vezu sa rekom, čeona hala beogradske luke ima potencijal stvaranja novog centralnog mesta u životu grada. Projekat se bavi prilagođavanjem bivšeg industrijskog prostora uzimajući u obzir indivudulane potrebe njegovih korisnika ali i kolektivne oblike ponašanja. Razumevanje potreba mase je zasnovano na analitičkim pretpostavkama i nizu pravila čijom kombinacijom je stvoren protokol za genezu prostorne forme. Promenom ulaznih podataka dobijamo promene u konačnoj konfiguraciji prostora. Promenom namene ili aktivacijom potencijalnih sadržaja kao što su izložbe, predavanja, ili koncerti vrši se i adaptacija prostora. Materijalizacija enterijera je definisana površinskim elementima i pokretnim pregradnim panelima koji su sajlama okašeni za posotojeću betonsku konstrukciju. Oscilacije u broju korisnika i intezitetu aktivnisti tako imaju direktan uticaj na stvaranje odgovarjućeg prostornog rešenja.

e One possible way to activate former industrial building is by inserting new programme into the existing architectural shell. In this case this is done by the gradual formation of the infrastructure for recreational activities. Introduced structures are mimicking naturally created rock suitable for free climbing according to three relevant parameters: degree of inclination, disposition of handles, and ascent trajectories. Taken as input data, these parameters are used to create formal differentiation and offer a degree of diversity to be matched with individual preferences of the users. Finally proposed structures synchronized and distributed in the existing building to help organize space and form a sequence of distinct interiors.

s Predlozenom strategijom aktiviranja Čeone hale stvara se poligon za slobodno penjanje, i srodne sportsko-rekreativne aktivnosti. Predvidjena prostorna struktura oponasa priordni oblik stena pogodnih za penjanjanje prema prostornim parametrima koji su relevantni sa ovaj sport: stepen nagiba, rasporeda hvatova i putanje uspona. Manipulacijom parametara kroz postavljeni protokol ostvarene su mnogostruke varijacije konacne forme. Medjusobnim uskladjivanjem i pozicioniranjem takvih struktura u prostoru hale, organizvan je citav prostor za definisanim podcelinama.

e Proposed strategy for the regeneration is aiming to reconcile former industrial building with its surroundings. Existing structure remains intact while new topography is introduced as a means to establish connection between the interior and the exterior. Initial analysis based on the catalog of suitable uses is converted into manageable data to help control the design process. A sequence of plausible design iterations has been tested with the use of a mechanism for distribution of referential points in relation to fluctuations in the parametric input. Resulting geometry is established as the optimal solution capable of fostering great number of uses.

s Projekat za regeneracju čeone hale Luke Beograd odnosi se na širi kontekst i bavi se povezivanjem grada i objekta. Polazeci od postojecih kvaliteta industrjskog objekta, strategija se oslanja na intervenciju topografskog karaktera kojom se vrsi povezivanje unutrašnjeg prostora hale i spoljnog prosrora neposrednog okruzenja. Inicijalna analizia kroz katalog potencijalnih aktivnosti je pretvorena u parmetre za generisanje prostorne forme, a zatim je uspostavljen mehanizam preko koga je ispitan niz mogucih resenja prema prostornoj dispoziciji referentnih tacaka u odnosu na varijacije u parmaetraskim vrednostima. Konacna geoemtrija je uspostvlajena kao optimalno resenje koje omogucava koegzistenciju velikog broja namena.

e The proposal is an adaptable configuration of column-like components equipped with rolled-in partitions to be expanded for space enclosure according to specific needs of the users, such as artists' spaces or small business' premises. In a way, project is to become a frame, changeable over time and capable of responding to diverse needs. Its transformation is parametric driven and in addition to variation in size and shape of the units, it provides for fluctuations in finishes and ambiance. High degree of customization, will give distinct identity to the space while existing qualities of the industrial warehouse space remain intact. Floor plane is another dominant feature of the project, with embedded infrastructure and intelligence for component distribution and possible partition trajectories according to multiple occupancy scenarios.

s Gradivne jedinice novih prostora unutar Čeone hale su stubovi u kojima se nalaze raznovrsni zavijeni materijali čijim se izvlačenjem prostor predgrađuje i postaje specifičan na onaj način koji je korisnik zamislio i koji mu je potreban da bi se bavio određenom vrstom aktivnosti. Forma projekta je “ram” za te aktivnosti, koje oblikuju različitu sliku svakom promenom parametara. Taj ram, sa svim svojim kapcitetima u varijaciji rasporeda, vrste aktivnosti i ambijenta, dopušta da forma Čeone hale ostane primarna, a da sam prostor dobije oblik aktivnosti koje se u datom trenutku vrše. Tlo je podeljeno na glavne zone koje su predodređene za različite aktivnosti, a na njemu se čitaju i putanje panela do svakog stuba za koji ih je moguće prikačiti.

e The idea was to convert void warehouse space into the display of science and technology related innovations. Proposed organizational scheme is derived form interdependent nature of the two phenomena and has been defined topologically, imposing key definitions of the space rather then is final form. Design proposal is initiated in the form of the info pavilion, assuming that such intervention would trigger the transformation of the entire site into the museum like environment. Over the period of time, pavilion will become not more than an item on display while surrounding space will inherit its characteristics with an echoing effect to result with the geometry of the circulation routes and distinct rooms with audio and visual independence.

s Ideja uredjenja Čeone hale zasnovana je na analizi postojeceg prostora i aktivnosti koje cine muzej. Predvidjeni sadrzaji iz kojih se grana organizaciona shema projekata, podeljeni su u dva fundametalna pojma: nauka i tehnologija. Njihove prostorne karakteristike odredjene su topoloski, pa je prostorni predlog iniciran na nivou paviljona koji onda i sam postaje eksponat u okviru muzeja. Razvojem kroz definisan vremenski period, paviljon postaje info centar dok ostatak prostora preuzima karakteristike paviljona stvarajuci eho efekat kroz citavu Čeonu halu. Tako definisane komponente organizuju postavku izlobe definisuci putanje kretanja i zasebne audio-vizuelne podceline prostora sa jasnim identitetom.

Boštjan is the founding partner at Sadar Vuga Arhitekti. He graduated at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana (1992) and contiunued post graduate studies at the AA School of Architecture in London (1993-1995). In 2003 he was a studio tutor at Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. He was a visiting critic at AA School of Architecture, at Bauhaus Kolleg in Dessau, at the IAAC in Barcelona, at the ETH in Zürich and at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Old Railway Bridge is the oldest permanent bridge in Belgrade, built 1884 . It was destroyed and and then built again several times. Proposed transformation includes new pedestrian and cyclists' routes and facilities for leisure, culture and commerce. Project anticipates organizational transformations and seasonal change in use.

The idea is to erase the border between the river and the ground, so that there is no clear distinction between the two. Proposal is developed from components with varied properties obtained through triangular subdivision of the given lot. Resulting pattern is the used to develop flexible occupancy scenarios and introduce infrastructural strategy. Finally, as the third iteration of the pattern, known planing parameter were introduced to help control of the formal growth.

In the coming term we will continue working on Versatilities agenda, yet we will shift the scale to focus toward truly buildable result at the end of the term. Studio will explore architectural means to activate one of the unused industrial warehouses at Port of Belgrade. Research into fabrication methods in conjunction with design techniques will be supported with now available funds for the prototype models at one-to-one scale. We start with the associative design workshop based on the Grasshopper for Rhino 27.02-10.03.

The project is about accessibility. The most accessible spots are the intersections of the extended existing lines of communication. A few of all these spots are separated to be the initial stage of the area development. The next step is to connect the initial spots with all the spots around them in the perimeter of 150m, and so the process of development is continued through phases.

One step further from the previous exercise 0809 [WS]_sheebitze is about developing purpose driven form which may require moving beyond restrictive nature of algorithmic logic. Setting up a design protocol remains essential, but interpretation of given parameters now gets into the focus of our attention. At this point we are looking for ways to transpose relevant data into the architectural form. The workshop is calling for the design of the pedestrian crossing over the rail at Belgrade Port, area already chosen for the semester-long project (see Versatilities). Suggested parameters are coming from obvious considerations regarding required clearance height of the structure and building regulations concerning pedestrian ways such as stairs and ramps, to those more complex in nature and connected to behavioral or environmental patterns on site. Through this workshop we are also aiming to close the gap between digital and analogue worlds in the attempt to develop comprehensive understanding of the form making and materiality. Any proposed solution is initially designed on the on the computer screen and subsequently developed through responding physical models.

We did the same exercise with two previous generations 0708[WS]_Sheebitze 0607[WS]_Sheebitze; it’s a fun way to start a school year. Workshop is aiming to develop understanding of the generative principles in the design process. Similar to its application in mathematics or computing, algorithmic logic here is employed for the purpose of generating form. In simple terms explained, algorithm is a set of instructions applied to a particular input in the pursuit of a certain output. It may be expressed through natural language, flowchart or programming language. Efficiency of the process is determined by the number of steps implied by algorithm leading to desired solution. In architectural context, such protocol leads to generation of formal complexity based on very simple geometric rules. For the convenience, exercise is limited to accessible materials and easy-to-do techniques. So in our case, given input is a matchstick and than required output is an abstract physical model which demonstrates a degree of structural or organizational logic. At this point, architectural reasoning is confined to formal basis only.

Architecture always arrives to a halt, a condition whereby evolving need outgrows spatial capacities and renders them obsolete. It’s not only the physical limits but also the very meaning and organizational logic of space which grow inadequate over time. Such phenomenon becomes more apparent with ever increasing dynamics of every day life, any given window of time becomes limiting for any building investment to the point where we face the choice between development and sustainability. Paradoxically we are still incapable of having both.

Versatilities
…. we are interested in the form and its physical characteristics before anything. In the context of change, we will look into the wide set of parameters defining versatile spatial organizations. Flexible and adaptive formations will be investigated as a way of urbanization charged with the ration of randomness and unpredictability. We will make excursions to the areas of computation, mathematics, biology, management theory or anything else in the search of a free-style approach to architecture of large scale projects.

While accepting impermanency at the level of organizational logic, we will explore formal configurations dependant on their ability to respond and evolve. Testing ground for Versatilities will be the former industrial zone of 110ha along the Danube River, occupied by Port of Belgrade, and currently under development. In parallel with the planning authorities and along with developer side, studio will be exploring radical concepts of urbanization, regeneration and integration with the city core.

Below shown is partially built physical model of a Beach Sunshade. The structure is made by multiplication of basic cells. Height and tilt angle of cells are dimensioned according to incidence angle of suns rays in order to make perforated structure that produces constant shade. Some of the cells are extended all the way to the ground level in order to provide structural support and lift the sunshade of the ground.
